Börje Salming is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey defenseman who is widely considered to be one of the best defensemen in NHL history. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings, during his career and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996. Salming was known for his offensive and defensive skills, as well as his physical play and durability. He was also one of the first European players to have a successful career in the NHL, paving the way for future generations of European players. Salming played 17 seasons in the NHL and was a seven-time All-Star.
